J.T. Hatcher confederate locked percussion shotgun showing 4809 serial number on the front of the lock, “1864 date at the middle of the lock and flag at the rear. It appears this military lock was adapted by armorer orgunsmith to a commercial gun of the same era by marrying a hand filed bolster and matching hammer at time of conversion. The barrel measures 34” and 50 ½” overall. Half stocked with brass bands and iron ferrells. There isa dark patina on the barrel with pitting at the area behind the nipple from firing. The action works well and a correct ramrod to this gun included. Approximately 10 GA. Fred Slayton collection tag attached and was lastsold in the 1990s by Little Johns. Slayton was a longtime early confederate collector who was one of the first to seek shotguns as he felt they were greatly prized and used by the confederate troops in the woods and brush where they loaded buck shot which was the most commonly available lead projectile. Note: The mounts show confederate color brass and #28 tag from Slayton on the butt. (Antique) Est.: $1000-$2000
