Mid-18th Century full length British Fowler with signed lock that only the letter “B” is clearly visible which could possibly be Blake. “V P” proofs on a 47” barrel and measures 63” overall. In approximately 12GAsmoothbore. The forward 42” of the fore end has been replaced in early period of use possibly American repair. The lock retains original parts and the pan is worn through from heavy firing and use. The main spring is broken and not working. Typical British mounts with shell carving around the tang (3 Screw Side Plate). The rear of the stock is good with loss at the top edge in front of the lock. This musket was from an earlycolonial arms collection sold by Little Johns circa early 1990s. Walter O’ Coner, when asked by the buyer of this musket, “Would he repair the fore end” replied “No idiot has restored the gun thus far why do you want tobe the first?” (Antique) Est.: $500-$1000
