American Colonial Flintlock long arm with lock marked “Whitel, Ely” circa about 1770s and made in Massachusetts with American Cherrywood stock. Measures 69” overall with a 54” barrel of approximately .69 caliber smoothbore with plain brass mounts and lazy “S” shaped side plate similar to brown bess. Simple brass trigger guard and butt plate with crude brass ferrells. The metal surfaces show dark patina with original flintlock parts and large “Swan’s neck” hammer. The stock shows breaks and repairs and we would rate as fair to almost good. The fore end is well restored and matched being spliced in about halfway down (Extending forward to the muzzle 39”). There is a split from contact in right side of the stock (Possibly hit from ball or club mark). Some other small marks and losses however the buttstock was left original when fore end was restored long ago. There is an oval plaque inlaid at the wrist and the musket shows a lot of firing including losses of wood behind the pan. The type of arm the militia and patriots may have used when the rebellion ignited in the American Revolution. Correct style ramrod included. (Antique) Est.: $3500-$7000
