Full stock transition late “Kentucky” style rifle with large engraved brass patch box showing pineapple finial (Possibly Philadelphia). Unmarked barrel and old sheet brass repair at the wrist is engraved inblock letters “This rifle was carried from Knobnoster, NC, to, California, in 1849, By Richard Marshall, Charge removed 1855 J.D.B.” The initials “R M” are carved behind the trigger guard. This rifle was sold by LittleJohns for descendants 25-35 years ago and it was stated to us that J.D.B. was the Gunsmith who removed the ball and charge plus refinished the rifle in 1955. The hammer cocks but does not hold on cock and triggersare working. Good as refinished with wood repair and small losses. Interesting gold rush era history that could be furthered researched. Measures 57” overall with a 41” barrel in approximately 40-42 caliber rifled. (Antique) Est.: $1400-$2800
