U.S. Model 1861 Contract Musket in .58 caliber rifled marked “C.D. Shobarth Providence (R.I) 1862” dated on the lock and the barrel. The metal surfaces show original bright with minor erosion and pitting. Thestock is very good with “H” inspectors stamp behind the trigger guard but no visible cartouche. Only small losses along ramrod channel with normal dings, mars and scratches. The action is good, marking ofeagle on the lock is strong with correct bands and ramrod. The rifling is shallow but at least good to very good. Last sold in the Ed Johnson award winning 1861 musket collection and was the past president ofVirginia Arms collector’s.
