British “Brown Bess” flintlock musket showing “GR” cypher and Dublin castle at the rear of the lock date 1769. Measures approximately 42” in approximately .70 caliber in original flintlock with correct hammer and all smallparts. Inscribed “55F“on the wrist plate. The metal is good and in the black completely uncleaned. The fore end shows 11” replacement of wood that was done during the period of use possibly in the revolutionary war. Wideearly butt with S shaped side plate. The swivels have been removed. The markings are good and the lock works well. A period metal ramrod is included. A very desirable date on a brown bess that had a chance to come toAmerica in the Revolution or War of 1812. (Antique) Est.: $2000-$4000
