European sword with forged cup hilt and wide long blade of 40” and approximately 49 ¼” overall. The blade is forged and tempered and approximately 1 ½” at the widest point. Tapering to a rounded point. The guard isforced with each branch separately and a large egg-shaped pommel of early style. The steel wrapped wire grip is good with some loosening. The sword is aged naturally (No acid) and showing pitting and forgingthroughout. The manufacture is a bit crude but definitely antique and not a reproduction. This sword stumped Eric Vaule the best expert we knew 30 years ago. He stated definitely not Victorian but also notmedieval. His conclusion was it was most likely made for the tournaments of the bridges in Italy which were insane revivals of medieval tournaments involving challenges at the bridges and warfare that could end indeath between combatants. The rounded tip is also may indicate tournament usage. Est.: $1000-$2000
