Lot 261 (21BG-153): Spanish 18th Century military issue sword cut down for use as a Naval cutlass, possibly by U.S. forces during the Revolutionary War. The cutlass is 31” overall with a 27” blade and rounded woodgrip. Remnant of marking in flattened ovoid shape (illegible) on blade. Deep brown patina with surface rust and erosion. In fair to good condition overall. Tag reads, “Former collection of Harry D. Berry Jr.Baltimore-MD”. Pieces of this noted collection are pictured in “The American Sword” by Harold L. Petersen.
