Ornately chiseled steel Italian flintlock pistol from early 18th century restocked in 19th century and length reduced. Measures 15” overall with a 9” barrel (was 12” plus originally) and of .50 caliber smoothbore.The lock and mounts show ornate chiseling in floral and figures as does the ornate side plate. The flintlock parts are original and in good condition showing definition and not polished or rubbed out. The stock has beencleaned and lightly refinished. The chiseling is most likely Brescian though the pistol is unsigned. A masterpiece of the gunsmith’s art that would cost a fortune to duplicate in hand worked steel if you find a master toattempt it.
