Ornate flintlock musket circa early 19th century with fancy gold inlay and elaborate and well carved Caucasian striped walnut stock showing a “Fiddleback” grain. The floral and geometric carving in the stock is unlike any other pattern we have examined in 50 years of cataloging. The quality of the carving is exceptionally good and extensive in its coverage. The trigger guard and fore end cap are en suite to the wood carving in their design and gilt brass. The butt plate is simple sheet brass and gilt to match. The barrel shows extensive rose and colored gold inlays that have a far eastern look. The lock is original flintlock with correct small parts gold inlaid in matching designs. The lock works well and a period rod is included. The barrel is approximately 40” and 55” overall in 28 GA or about .54 caliber smoothbore with sight on breech end. The metal condition is very good plus with minor normal aging. The stock is also very good plus with crisp carving showing one loss of wood at top of the edge of the stock 2”-3” forward and 1/16 to ¼” which is not immediately apparent. An impressive and well decorated arm made from the area of Turkey to the Far East as it has strong Asian influence in design motifs. (Antique) Est.: $1250-$2500
