214: A Moche III Stirrup Vessel of Prisoner
Peru, ca. 500 – 700 AD. Bi-chrome pottery vessel depicting a bound male wears a checkerboard patterned tunic covering his body and has a very detailed satchel over his shoulder. Head held forward and slightly lowered in a submissive pose. Great deal of attention given to the detailed ears, mouth and nose. Large ear spools in each ear and each ear pieces multiple times. His long hair tucked under a small tight fitted cap with incised details on top. Of particular interest and a very rare addition to this vessel is the legs which are carved and crossed at the bottom of the vessel. Mineral deposits remain on the surface. 9-1/4"H.
