20th Century Fox Studio Colt Live Fire 32-20 Police Special Revolver
20th Century Fox Studio Colt Live Fire 32-20 Police Special Revolver - For years all the major studios had their own armorer and weapons department that supplied guns and other weapons for their productions. This included official licensed agents who could handle "live fire" weapons. 20th Century Fox Studios was known for having one of best equipped weapons departments in Hollywood, and many of the other studios, and independent productions would also utilize their services and rent both their guns and their experts. This is a live-fire Colt Police Positive Special 32-20 W.C.F. double-action revolver with a six round cylinder designed and manufactured by Colt's Manufacturing Company. This PPS is slightly different from the popular earlier version having a lengthened cylinder and elongated and strengthened frame to allow the chambering of the longer, more powerful .32-20 Winchester and .38 Special cartridges. These guns were made specifically for sale to law enforcement agencies and became their best selling model as police departments and other law enforcements departments in America and around the world made them their standard issued weapon. They especially liked their light-weight frame, and accuracy. In motion pictures, especially between the early 1940's and the late 1950's, this gun was one of the most screen used weapons. This specific gun comes directly from one of the original 20th Century Fox armorers, who kept it because of its popularity and rarity, and because the department also had nickel plated the gun frame, barrel, and trigger guard, which is a complex and expensive process. The plating gave the gun an extremely dramatic look on film, and therefore was done only to guns that would have been used as "hero" guns, that is, guns used by the leads in the film, or when special close-ups of the actual weapons being fired was needed. It has the original Colt Barrel roll marks with "COLT'S PT FA MFG CO" (Patent Firearms Manufacturer Company) engraved on the top of the barrel. Below these roll marks is engraved "PAT'D AUG 5, 1884 JUNE 5 1900 JULY 4 1905". In addition "COLT POLICE POSITIVE 32-20 W.C.F." is engraved on the side of the barrel. To authentic this weapon as being used in films, and from the 20th Century Fox Weapons Department "FOX STUDIOS" has been engraved on the bottom of the barrel. The gun's SN is 331227, which is match engraved both on the inside cylinder framing and opened cylinder frame. It also includes Colt's black plastic cross-hatched grips with matching cross-hatched cylinder release. It appears that the hammer and trigger may have been replaced after its original use. The gun shows some signs of production use, but is in very good condition with excellent action. There is a small "indent crack" at the base of the left grip. Please note that this is a full live-fire gun and therefore will require special handling and a special FFL license in order to be picked up or shipped (it can be shipped anywhere in the United States). Arrangements will be made by our FFL Agent for this transfer to you. Fees for these papers will be in addition to the sale price.
