The lot features a polychrome painted parfleche envelope from the Crow Apsáalooke of Absarokee, Montana from the 20th-century. The Apsaalooke bag is accompanied by several collection tags which read as such, “Crow Ca. 1880’s Buffalo Rawhide with all clay / hide glue paint – Age / hide spun paintna”, “Burned holes. Brain tan deer hide thongs. London square weave 100% wool trim.”, “The Crow Call Themselves – ‘The People of the Long Beak Bird’ Montana Home”, “A Crow is long beak the word ‘Absaroke’ is crow in Crow. Also a Mt. Range, a town, a river.”, “Contents – fall / August Montana Silver sage – to Seed – plant?”, “Bull Buffalo Beard Hair – a Montana Herd.”, and "Two very old -vv- worn Buff Bull Teeth from at least an 25-30 year old" on one side and "Beads - Glass Blue Italy 1890-1900 copper-France 1890 / Age patina & sizing". The back exhibits thick buffalo / bison hide parfleche rawhide with Indian hide sewing and covered in classic geometric polychrome painting in blue, yellow, red, orange, green and light blue. The bag has strips of old red stroud trade clothe on the sides, two worn old Buffalo / Bison bull teeth as well as various old trade beds on the Indian hide fringes. The back is signed / painted on, "Crow 'the people of The Long Beak Bird' / 'Absarokee' Montana" with a painting of a Crow bird. The back has a seem sewn with sinew. Measures with fringes and strap 15.5-inches long, bag itself without fringes, clothe, and strap is 6-inches by 5.5-inches.
