203 million years old, Plesiosaurus dinosaur tooth, fossil, display specimen in matrix. 4" length. Found in an area of Morocco. Plesiosaurus are an order of extinct, large marine Sauropterygian reptile. It is a typical early member of the order Plesiosauria & had a worldwide oceanic distribution in many continents & countries, one of which was Morocco. They first appeared in the latest Triassic period about 203 million years ago, & became very common in the Jurassic period. The Plesiosaur varied in length from about 5 feet to about 49 feet & had a broad flat body with a short tail & long neck. Plesiosaurus ate fish, belemnites & other prey using its U-shaped jaw & sharp teeth as a fish trap. It could have also used its neck as a rudder when chasing its prey. Â
