203: A Pre-Columbian Aztec Female Figure
From the ancient Aztec culture of Pre-Columbian Mexico, circa 1200 A.D. – 1521 A.D. This example measures 3 ¾” tall (item alone, un-mounted) and about 4 ½” tall mounted on the custom display stand (included). It depicts a flat female figure with perforations at each shoulder for possible suspension or attachment to another object. She is rendered in typical Aztec fashion, wearing an ornate skirt/textile with a geometric design, ornate ear spools and necklace, and with her hair displayed in a complex style. She is shown with both hands resting on her torso, with breasts exposed.

Provenance: From the estate of Douglas Hague and Jorge Euan, San Francisco, CA. collected in the 1960’s.
