2017-W US 1oz Silver Eagle NGC PF70 UCAM FDOI
2017-W American Silver Eagle $1 coin, graded PF70 Ultra Cameo by NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Corporation), certified as a First Day of Issue. This proof coin was struck at the West Point Mint and is encapsulated in an NGC holder with a certification label hand-signed by John M. Mercanti. Mercanti, who served as the 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint from 2006 to 2010, designed the coin's reverse and concluded a distinguished 37-year career with the Mint after joining in 1974. The obverse design, originally created by Adolph A. Weinman in 1916 for the Walking Liberty Half Dollar, features Liberty in full stride toward the rising sun. Draped in the American flag, her right hand is extended in a gesture of hope while she carries branches of laurel and oak in her left, symbolizing civil and military glory. The inscription "LIBERTY" arcs across the top, and the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" appears at lower right. The year of issue, 2017, is centered at the bottom. The reverse, designed by John Mercanti, showcases a heraldic eagle with shield, clutching an olive branch in the right talon and arrows in the left. Above the eagle are thirteen five-pointed stars representing the original colonies. A banner in the eagle's beak bears the motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM." Inscribed around the rim are "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "1 OZ. FINE SILVER-ONE DOLLAR." The "W" mintmark, indicating the West Point Mint, is placed below the eagle's left talon. This coin is part of the U.S. Mint's Proof Silver Eagle series and is struck in 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver. The PF70 Ultra Cameo grade indicates a flawless proof specimen with deeply mirrored fields and frosted design elements, exhibiting the highest quality of strike and preservation. Slab: 2.25"L x 0.5"W x 3.25"H. Coin diameter: 39mm.
