The obverse depicts the full-length figure of Liberty draped in the American flag, striding confidently toward the dawn of a new day, her right arm extended and her left cradling branches of laurel and oak, symbolizing civil and military glory. The inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the date 2016 are arranged in balanced relief. he reverse, designed by John Mercanti, presents a heraldic eagle with outstretched wings, clutching an olive branch and arrows in its talons, with a shield at its breast and thirteen stars positioned above in a triangular formation, representing the original colonies. Encircling the design are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER -ONE DOLLAR, and the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM.
