2006-P US Mint Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle Type 1 Dollar Coin
2006-P American Silver Eagle Reverse Proof coin issued by the United States Mint in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the American Eagle coin program. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint and bearing the "P" mintmark, this coin contains one troy ounce of .999 fine silver and carries a face value of one dollar. The obverse, designed by Adolph A. Weinman, depicts Liberty in full stride, enveloped in the folds of the American flag, with her right hand extended and branches of laurel and oak cradled in her left arm. The inscription IN GOD WE TRUST is placed to the right, and the year 2006 appears below the design. The reverse, designed by John Mercanti, presents a heraldic eagle with a shield, clutching arrows in its left talon and an olive branch in its right. A flowing banner in the eagle's beak displays the national motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. Thirteen five-pointed stars are arranged above the eagle, symbolizing the original colonies. This coin is distinguished by its reverse proof finish, a special strike type where the design elements are mirror-like and the background fields are frosted. This is the inverse of a traditional proof coin, where the background is mirror-polished and the raised devices are frosted. This treatment dramatically enhances the contrast and detail of both the obverse and reverse imagery, resulting in a striking visual effect. The coin is housed in its original blue lacquered U.S. Mint presentation case, which features a plush velvet interior and is accented with the silver-embossed seal of the Department of the Treasury (established 1789). The outer lid bears the modern United States Mint logo. Box: 6.75"L x 4"W x 1.75"H.
