2002-W $5 American Gold Eagle 1/10 oz. Proof Coin
2002-W United States Mint American Eagle Gold Proof Coin, struck in one-tenth ounce of 22-karat gold. This proof-quality five-dollar coin is composed of 91.67% gold, 3% silver, and 5.33% copper, giving it a total weight of 0.1091 troy ounces (approximately 3.393 grams). The actual gold content is 0.1000 troy ounces (approximately 3.110 grams). Minted at the West Point facility, the coin bears the "W" mint mark. The obverse of the coin features the full-length figure of Liberty designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left, with flowing robes and radiant sun rays in the background. The year 2002 is inscribed near Liberty's right foot, and a ring of stars encircles the outer edge. The reverse side of the coin, designed by Miley Busiek, presents a family of bald eagles - an image symbolic of American tradition and strength. A male eagle is depicted in flight carrying an olive branch, while a female eagle shelters her hatchlings in the nest below. Surrounding inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, 1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD, and 5 DOLLARS. This coin is encapsulated in a clear protective acrylic holder and housed in its original navy blue velvet clamshell presentation case with gold-tone metal corners and an embossed eagle emblem. The entire set is enclosed in its original matching navy blue outer box, stamped in gold with the official seal and title: AMERICAN EAGLE ONE-TENTH OUNCE PROOF GOLD BULLION COIN. Box: 4.25"L x 3.5"W x 1"H. Coin diameter: 16.5mm.
