PAIR - Early 1900s Artifact Bracelets - HAND MADE by ANCHORAGE ALASKA ESKIMOS

Here are two early 1900s hand carved Mastodon bracelets, made by Eskimos in Anchorage, Alaska in the early part of the 20th Century.

These bracelets were made by a professional Native Eskimo craftsman, to sell, barter and trade with locals but mostly tourists visiting Alaska.

The craftsmanship on both piece's is excellent.

Extremely detailed, excellent craftsmanship, hand crafted of Mastodon Bark.

Ancient found tusks from the Woolly Mammoth that roamed North American and Canada over 10,000-13,000 years ago and became extinct during the end of the last ice age about that long ago, when the ice sheets receded.

Our planet has been through many ice ages and warming periods over the millennia.

Its amazing to think that only around 10,000-13,000 years ago and on back many, many more centuries that the area of Northern Continental US, all of Canada, Alaska, Yukon etc, was covered with around 2 miles of ice, that is over 10,000 feet of solid ice. Just imagine the weight, when that ice sheet moved, it would push everything forward of it down to bedrock and shape mountains, valleys and form most of the lakes we enjoy today.

Both are super pieces and in excellent condition. Cords are semi stretchy and in good condition, they may have been restrung, there is no artists makers marks.

The Eagle bracelet measures 2 3/8 in diameter static and the other measures 2 1/8 in diameter static. They do give and would likely fit most any wrist.

There is no damage to be found. Ive had them for many years and they are now looking for a new home.

The story I received from the customer these were purchased from told me their grand mother received these as a gift for getting straight As upon graduation from High School, the year of 1930.

They were purchased from a Eskimo native in Anchorage, Alaska in 1930.
