20,000 Leagues Under The Sea Underwater Rifle Movie Props
Prototype underwater electric pellet rifle production-made by Disney Studios and legendary production designer Harper Goff for the film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954), based on the Jules Verne book. Goff was also instrumental in the conception of Disneyland. The 1954 Technicolor science fiction movie starring Kirk Douglas, James Mason, Paul Lukas and Peter Lorre was the only in the genre personally produced by Walt Disney. The futuristic design of this prototype served as the basis for the underwater electric pellet rifles used onscreen by Captain Nemo (James Mason) and Nautilus crewman. Includes a Letter of Authenticity from Larry and Paul Brooks, the historical consultants for 20,000 Leagues hired by Disney to appear in a 9-minute segment on the film's Special Edition DVD. In their March 21st 2011 Letter of Authenticity, the Brooks brothers state "We have carefully examined this prop underwater rifle used by the Nautilus submarine crew in Walt Disney's classic 1954 film, "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," and compared it directly with a screen used hero rifle. We believe this rifle was the prototype or pattern from which the screen used underwater rifles were made, and is an important part of "20,000 Leagues" history." Larry Brooks also played a major part in bringing the crew back together for the 20,000 Leagues Production Team Reunion held at Disney Studios and wrote a 3-part 33-page series about the film for FILMFAX Magazine (issues No. 111 July/Sept 2006, No. 112 Oct/Dec 2006, and No. 113 Jan/March 2007). Approx. 39" long. Comes with copy of Letter of Provenance.
