Sumptuous pair of stereoscopic daguerreotypes by the great English master. These are absolutely pristine and original, with the original tape, the paper backing with Williams' logo. The reverse-painted black mask has been hand-signed "TRW." The backs have bold pen inscriptions. At the top are the initials "E. F. S." I believe this is the owner, someone in Williams' circle. The upper right corner has a number in pen. The lower right corner has an indication from whom the stereoscopic daguerreotype was acquired or gifted, and one has a date in the lower right. As the numbers are "No. 18" and "No. 22" it would seem that "E.F.S." was the recipient of a great many of these, or at least 22 of them, over a period of time. No. 18 is a portrait of a distinguished couple. The gentleman reads from a letter, as the woman listens intently, holding her fan in her lap. Interesting objects are on the table at the right. No. 22 is a smashing portrait of a [different] dapper gentleman, with his gloves in the hat on the table. This is dated "22nd Dec. 1854" and may have been a Christmas present for "E. F. S." These are contained in a leather case expressly made to hold two stereoscopic daguerreotypes, with
Williams' logo brightly gilded on the flap. Both have excellent hand tinting. [4]

Every lot is listed with a minimum bid. Bids must be in a multiple of $5, at least at this level. There is a schedule of increments. Winning bids must be a full increment above the next highest bid. For example, if your left bid is $720 and the previous bid is $700, you will not win the lot because the next increment at this level would be $770.

If the bid is below $100, the increment is $5.
Between $100 and $1000, it is 10% of the hundreds. For example between $300 and $400 it is 10% of $300, or $30.
