EMBELLISHED HEAD STALLS & BITS.
1) An early, brown leather headstall embellished throughout w/ silver plates attached to the leather. The adjustment buckle is approx. 3" in length & solid silver. The bridle rosettes are also punch decorated silver w/ a brass clip on the reverse to facilitate attachment. All silver pieces are punch decorated in an early manner. The attached iron Mexican ring bit has silver embellishments on the side. CONDITION: headstall generally shows moderate use w/ some cracking but no separations to the leather. The silver shows years of tarnish & the bit shows expected oxidation.
2) An early, dark brown leather headstall embellished all over the straps w/ mostly oval punch decorated silver plates. This example has a distinctly American or Mexican Indian appearance. The rectangular buckles have punch decorations as do the silver tips at the ends of the leather straps. The ancient looking iron Mexican ring bit has numerous chain ornaments hanging from it. CONDITION: leather is a bit stiff but remains somewhat pliable. Silver generally has a dark patina. Iron bit has a deep brown oxidized patina. (02-16066/BF). $500-700.
