& RELATED BOOKS. 1) A rear seam swivel bail M1 helmet painted on the outside w/ yellow & black spray paint over the entirety of the helmet. Handpainted on front is the black tiger insignia of the South Vietnamese Rangers that features the head of a black tiger superimposed over a red outlined white star. Standard Vietnam era liner. Complete chinstrap. CONDITION: helmet shows numerous scuffs & scrapes & likely field repainting several times. This example saw significant field service during the war. 2) A rear seam swivel bail M1 helmet painted on the outside in a stylized gray & black “camouflage” motif. Handpainted on the front is the black tiger insignia of the South Vietnamese Rangers featuring the head of a black tiger superimposed over a red outlined white star. Standard Vietnam era liner. Complete chinstrap. CONDITION: shows light wear overall & was likely worn very little in the field if at all. 3) A rear seam swivel bail M1 helmet w/ camouflage cover. Liner appears to be of the Korean War era. Stretch band around the camouflage cover reads “IT’S TOO LATE NOW”. Partial chinstrap. CONDITION: overall light to moderate wear, swivel bail is missing on the right side. 4) 4 Books relating to the South Vietnamese Ranger units operating in country during the Vietnam War. Among the 4 books is a unit history titled “The Black Tigers” presented by Lt. Col. McDonald Valentine Jr. of the Airborne Ranger Infantry and written by Gerard M. Devlin of the 44th Vietnamese Rangers. CONDITION: books are lightly read. PROVENANCE: Collection of Roger Ballard. (02-14863/BF). $500-700.
