<B>Pair of Oliver Ellsworth Revolutionary Period Pay Orders for Weapons.</B></I> A delegate to the Continental Congress from Connecticut, Ellsworth helped word the Constitution and secured its ratification by that state. He was a senator and resigned to become Chief Justice, but left that position in 1799 to smooth relations with France. The first document is signed: "<I>O. Ellsworth</B></I>", as a member of the state general assembly, one page, 8" x 6", July 6, 1776, Hartford. "<I>Pay Capt. Israel Seymour Three pound Six shilling & five pence for belts & scabbards for Colony arms...</B></I>" <BR><BR>The second document is signed: "<I>O. Ellsworth</B></I>", as a member of the state general assembly, one page, 8" x 6", July 6, 1776, Hartford. "<I>Pay the Select Men of Hartford Six pounds two Shillings & six pence for one Gun & Bayonet...for the Troops raising in Hartford for Continental Service.</B></I>" While Ellsworth's signature is not exceedingly rare but the date, condition, and display appeal of the format make these two quite desirable.
