Newfoundland "Grand River Pulp & Lumber Co.", Note of Two Dollars. Listed in Charlton "Canadian Merchant Scrip (2007)" as #NL-30-10-04, though without photographs, and noted as never having been seen by the author;, R.J Graham. In fact, the name of the company is incorrectly listed as "Grand River Pulp & Paper Co., Limited". The signatures, printed, and imprint are as catalogued, as is the central vignette. The note are described as undated, but the $2 is stamped "99", clearly refering to the year 1899, the colour, listed as unknown, is black for the $2 below the vignette. The back, described as "presumed to be plain" is indeed so. The cataloguer estimates the value in VG condition as $1200. This note is choice VF-EF.

A buyer’s premium of eighteen (18) % will be added to the hammer price of each lot and is payable by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The G.S.T. of 5 % for Canadian residents and the Q.S.T. of 9.975 % for Quebec residents ( or the H.S.T. for residents of the participating provinces) are also applicable to all successful bids as part of the purchase price.
Lots are sold to the highest bidder. In case of dispute, the decision of the auctioneer will be final. Lots should be picked up immediately after the sale. Purchasers must pay for their lots on delivery. An interest charge of two (2) % per month will be charged to buyers on all overdue accounts. Payment by cash, cheque, money-order (CAN or US currency) and credit cards Visa and MasterCard are accepted.
All bids are in Canadian funds. Bids in US funds will be converted at the prevailing exchange rate.
Forwarding charges, insurance and registration will be charged to the buyer. Shipment is executed at the buyer’s risk and responsibility.
Should a purchaser wish to submit an item for expertization, the auctioneer must be notified and the lot paid at the time of sale. If the lot proves to be not as described, the purchaser’s money shall be repaid in full.
Material described as having defects are not returnable on account of condition. No lots may be returned by persons who have had the opportunity to examine the material before the sale. Any returns for whatever reason must be made within thirty (30) days of receipt of lot(s). Champagne Auctions are obligated to pay all consignment lots within this amount of time.
The auctioneer reserves the right to group two (2) or more lots and also to withdraw any lot or lots from sale.
The placing of a bid shall constitute acceptance of the foregoing conditions of sale. Bids will be executed by the auctioneer. Bidding increments are at the discretion of the auctioneer.
Mail, fax, phone or online bids are entered on a first bid received basis. In the event of a tie bid, the first bid received has priority. E-mail bids are accepted only from regular customers or if a credit card number is supplied.
