2 FULL sheets of rare piece X-mas paper collectible - large uncut scrap sheets of Saint Nicholas. There are 120 images on each large (15-3/4" x 10-1/2") sheet, each image is 1-3/8" high. There are 3 versions of St. Nicholas - (40) red jeweled hat and white robe, (40) blue jeweled hat and blue robe, (40) red jeweled hat and red robe. Marked VB, number 0100, dated (7th edition) 1940. St. Nicholas Day (December 6th) was very popular Holiday in Europe. On this day small children were visited by the trio of St. Nicholas, Devil and Angel. The Devil reminded them that they should listen to their parents and behave well - otherwise he would take them with him. The Saint Nicholas would then reward the children usually with gingerbread cookies with the St. Nicholas, Devil or Angel scraps pasted on them. This vintage chromolithograph coated with gummastic based laquer survived its 60+ years of age in excellent condition. Please refer to"Christmas Ornaments, Lights & Decorations" by George Johnson, page 104. Listed (1987) value of a comparable swag of 5 is $3-5. Remember, this is sheet of 120!!! Single scraps in this condition is hard to find, full sheets are EXTREMELY scarce!!! Please note that we are picturing only part of the sheet, because it is to large to fit in the scanner. You are buying 2 sheets with total of 240 images !!!!
