2 Handpainted Talavera Mexico Plates. Both plates are 10'' diameter. One plate is Dark Blue with rust, green and yellow flower designs and it says on the back, ''Juquila Talavera,'' which is the artist, Juquila, from Talavera. It has scalloped and fluted edges. The other plate has pink flowers around the rim and in the center. This plate says on the back, ''Hechoa Mano La Colonial Pue,Mex.,'' which roughly translates to handmade in the colonial state of Puebla, Mexico. Talavera pottery of Puebla, Mexico is a type of majolica pottery, which is distinguished by a milky-white glaze.[1] Authentic Talavera pottery only comes from the Spanish colonial era city of Puebla and the nearby communities of Atlixco, Cholula, and Tecali, because of the quality of the natural clay found there and the tradition of production which goes back to the 16th century.
