Bellows,</B></I> two pages on U.S. Sanitary Commission letterhead, 5” x 8”, New York City, April 3, 1863, to “<I>Senator Foote</B></I>”, n.p. Discusses an applicant for the ambulance corps who is a kinsman of the senator's. The recipient of the letter was likely John J. Foote, formerly seated in the New York State Senate. Fine condition.<BR><B>Manuscript Untitled Ode to George Washington,</B></I> one page on U.S. Sanitary Commission letterhead, New York City, February 22, 1865. Regarding Washington, an obtuse Bellows writes: “<I>…He is keeping our country's birth into a new & heavenly life, a Birthday of Freedom for a Race, which he emancipated in dying.</B></I>” Fine condition. Lot includes small water-stained period engraving of Bellows. <BR>Clergyman Henry W. Bellows (1814-1882) ran the U.S. Sanitary Commission, the North's leading soldier's aid organization. <I>From the collection of Henry E.
