Featured in this lot 2 7/8" Pre Columbian Hohokam Celtor Utensil circa 300BCE to 1500CE. The celt utensil is wonderfully and professionally crafted construction that shows a deep dark coloration that was professionally knapped and them later polished slick to give it its shape and usefulness. Hohokam was a culture in the North American Southwest in what is now part of Arizona, United States, and Sonora, Mexico. It existed between 300 and 1500 CE, with cultural precursors possibly as early as 300 BCE. The condition of this celt utensil is well preserved with a smooth demeanor that shows some slight chipping to the rounded end and the sharpened end but otherwise is well preserved. The measurements of this celt utensil is 2 7/8" x 1 1/2" x 5/8". Provenance: the Owen D. Mort, Jr. Collection. Owen David Mort was an American engineer who amassed an impressive collection throughout his worldwide travels. His collection has included art, artifacts and other historical items from which he has donated to museums at the University of Utah and the Snite Museum of Art at the University of Notre Dame, including African, Afghan and Asian artifacts.
