Gem tintype of Francis E. Brainerd, 1st Wisconsin Heavy Artillery, Company E. Brainerd has signed the bottom margin of his image in ink, “F. E. Brainerd / Elroy, Juneau Co. / Wis.” Brainerd mustered in on 8 September 1864. He mustered out in June 1865. The 1st Wisconsin Heavy Artillery was formed under General Orders which called for the recruiting of additional companies. Backing measures 2” x 4” and has been previously trimmed. Gen tintype image measures 1” x 12”. Slight foxing to matting, overall very good condition.
