CDV of Captain Frank W. Taggard of the 1st Massachusetts Heavy Artillery, Company D. Image signed in ink, “F.W. Taggard / Capt. Atty.” Taggard mustered into service on 5 July 1861. He was discharged for promotion to the U.S. Volunteers Adjutant Generals Office on 11 March 1863 and mustered out as a Lieutenant Colonel on 18 July 1867. The 1st Massachusetts saw action in some of the war’s most significant battles, losing heavily at Winchester, Spotsylvania and Petersburg. Image in very good condition.
