1st Ed. Life of General Ulysses S Grant By Abbott
For your consideration is this 1868 first edition of "The Life Of General Ulysses S. Grant" written by John S. C. Abbott and published by B. B. Russell in Boston. Shortly before the Ulysses S Grant’s presidency began, John SC Abbott wrote a biographical sketch of the Civil War hero and general. Abbott wrote what would become one of the best accounts of Grant’s military career and his significant victories in the Civil War. Other noteworthy topics include: The Battle of Shiloh, Battle of Vicksburg, Grant at Missionary Ridge, Notes on Abraham Lincoln’s second Inauguration, and Grant’s perspective on Sherman’s March. The book reads, "U.S. Grant" in gold gilt lettering on the front cover, surrounded by embossed designs in the leather cover. On the title page under the etching of Grant's signature, there is a graphite signature, unknown if it is from Grant himself. The book shows fair condition from its over 150 year old life time with the front cover being loosely connected and the back cover and the first few pages disconnected from the book. The spine shows extensive wear as well. The interior pages show slight foxing throughout, but it is still in good readable condition. The book measures 7 1/2" L x 5" W x 1 1/2" D.*
