1st Ed. Hutterites of Montana by Laura Wilson
Featured in this lot is this 1st edition book titled, "Hutterites of Montana" by Laura Wilson. While working with Richard Avedon, photographer Laura Wilson discovered the Hutterites of Montana, a religious community of 40,000 people living throughout the American West. Wilson captures the distinctiveness the Hutterites through many black and white photos. The Hutterites live on large farms and ranches and shun the modern world. Less assimilated than the Amish and the Mennonites, they practice communal living through shared ownership of all property and income. Although they carefully protect their spiritual life by avoiding worldly temptations - no televisions, no radios, no cars, no dancing. The Hutterites are at once an overlooked story in modern American West and a part of our nation's religious history. The book features a dust jacket with a photo of a boy standing on a horse's back. The original cloth hardback cover is grey and in good condition. The interior pages are in good condition with no signs of tears or foxing present. Overall the book shows very good condition. The book measures 12 5/8" L x 9 7/8" W x 7/8" D.
