Featured in this lot is this 1890 first edition of "Crossing The Bar" by Alfred Lord Tennyson (1809-1892), published by Barse & Hopkins in New York in 1890. Alfred Tennyson, 1st Baron Tennyson FRS was an English poet. He was the Poet Laureate during much of Queen Victoria's reign. In 1829, Tennyson was awarded the Chancellor's Gold Medal at Cambridge for one of his first pieces, "Timbuktu". He published his first solo collection of poems, Poems, Chiefly Lyrical, in 1830. This book features multiple poems from multiple authors such as Whittier, Walt Whitman, Carlyle, and Seneca to name a few. The book includes the original green book case. The book features a green suede leather soft cover, bound by a green colored leather strip. There is gold gilding on the front cover, with the title and author's last name in raised green leather lettering. Each page is beautifully decorated with colored illustrations around each poem. The book and book case show good condition for their age with no signs of obvious damage. The interior pages are in good condition as well with no tears or signs of foxing present. The book measures 6 7/8" L x 4 5/8" W.
