May 10, 1775 $20 “MARBLED BORDER” PCGS EF-40
Continental Congress. May 10, 1775. $20. “Marbled Border” First Continental Currency Issue note. PCGS graded Extremely Fine-40.
Fr. CC-9. This is a classic major rarity and a highly popular Continental Congress issued Revolutionary War note. This truly uniquely designed rectangular note was printed on special “Marbled Border” paper provided to the Continental Congress by Benjamin Franklin. It is considered an essential highlight type, for any historical American Paper Money collection. Apparent restorations noted on its holder, having a few tiny edge chips expertly conserved. Vivid red and brown signatures and serial number add further color and eye appeal. Perfectly centered, with full margins present on both the face and back, which is rare on this denomination, making this note particularly attractive! One of the nicest examples for centering on a “Marbled Border” Continental Congress issued note we have seen. This design type was also chosen to adorn the cover of the 5th edition of Eric Newman’s classic reference, “The Early Paper Money of America”.
