1C 1803 Small Date, Obverse of S- 262/263. An incredible obverse brockage in Mint State. Smooth, meticulously struck surfaces are complemented by chocolate- brown patina. Were it not for a curious symbol shallowly scratched into the left obverse field (a symbol that we have seen on other coins- perhaps the work of an early collector to hallmark his ownership of the coin), the aesthetic appeal of this remarkable specimen would be complete. Certainly the finest known early date brockage with respect to wear, the pedigree of this jewel is beyond reproach. Ex Richard Picker; earlier C. Douglas Smith; earlier New Netherlands 1952 ANA sale, Lot 1961; earlier Homer Dowing; earlier David Proskey, and also plated in Howard Newcomb's 1925 book on The United States Cents of The Years 1801- 1802- 1803, it's authenticity is clearly above reproach. Buyer's Premium
There is a 13% buyer's premium that will be discounted by 3% if payment is made in cash or by cash equivalent. An additional 3% buyers premium will be charged to successful bidders using our iCollector online bidding platform.
Conditions of Sale
All purchases are to be paid in full in U.S. funds on the day of sale or immediately upon receipt of invoice. There is a 13% buyers premium that will be discounted by 3% if payment is made in cash or by cash equivalent. Successful bidders using our iCollector bidding platform will also be charged an additional 3% buyers premium. All announcements made on the day of the sale take precedence over any printed matter. We reserve the right to delay the release of any purchased lots until payment has cleared through our bank. We encourage bidders to pre-register and provide a deposit prior to the sale if they anticipate being a particularly heavy buyer. In addition, please be advised that any lots may be withdrawn prior to the sale without notice.
We anticipate receiving bids by telephone, by mail, and over the internet as well as on the floor of the auction room. Notwithstanding the exercise of any bids received prior to actual floor bidding, all bids will be recognized at the discretion of the auctioneer. As a result, any tie bids will normally result in the floor bidder being recognized first in order to break such a tie bid. We highly value those bidders that attend our sale in person and encourage all bidders to attend where possible. In all cases, the auctioneer has final discretion as to the order in which all bids are accepted and his/her decisions will be final.
Although this is not an approval sale, successful mail/internet bidders are granted a 10 day return privilege for errors in description and/or justifiable discrepancies in condition with regard to uncertified (non-third party graded) auction lots.
