Antique, Victorian Staffordshire porcelain black and white King Charles Spaniel Comforter Dog, presented in the hard to find size 5. Mid to late 19th Century. Wonderful detail and paint, age appropriate wear, and fine definition of lines. Approx. 8" H X 6" W. Documentation: Harding Victorian Staffordshire, Volume 2, p. 174 Good condition for age, paint loss, minor imperfections to be expected. The Spaniel Dogs, were a staple of the Victorian household and assimilate just as well in a present day. The origin or inspiration is thought to be the pet King Charles Spaniel "Dash", kept by Queen Victoria, as a child, who became her contest component when she became Queen. The first comforters appeared at the beginning of the 1840's and continued in production into the 1900's. Â
