"History of Hocking Valley, Ohio". Inter-State Publishing Co. Chicago, 1883 hardcover, 1392 pages. This thick volume bound by navy blue cloth-covered boards with matching leather bindings. The title emblazoned in gilt letters on the spine cover & within a faded gilt emblem on the front cover. The full title of this text reads: "History of Hocking Valley, Ohio, Together with Sketches of its Cities, Villages & Townships, Educational, Religious, Civil, Military, & Political History, Portraits of Prominent Persons, & Biographies of Representative Citizens." The book contains an intense local history of Hocking Valley, Ohio from its founding in the late 18th century to the text's publication in 1883.  Chapters on Native Americans, The War of 1812, Mexican War, and The War Between the States, President Lincoln's Assassination, Mayors of Albany, Schools and Churches, Lodges and Societies - The Underground Railway Run by a Few Citizens of Albany - Biographical." * volume shows typical indications of age & wear, including rubbing, chipping, light soiling, & some other markings. Text appears to have been neatly re-backed with new endpapers & the binding & hinges are solid & firm. Some toning is visible on the pages & edges. There are some moisture markings on several pages.
