Original 19th-century etching by F. Krostewitzl after a painting by A. Schreyer ( Berlin 1861 ) On the Road in Wallachia, printed originally for the British Magazine of Arts. The original painting was a reference to the perennial bad state of repair of the Romanian roads, the etching presented to the British readers to show a typical highway in Wallachia, now a province in southern Romania. The road is full of mud, menacing water puddles & deep trenches made by heavy horse-drawn carriages. 5 1/4" X 9 3/4" in 11 1/4" X 17 1/2" portfolio.
