19th Century photogravure engraving, bookplate, from an 1882 edition of Etudes In French Art. Medieval Italian poet Dante walking along the Arno River in Florence, based on the original painting by a French Artist Jean-Leon Gerome (1824-1904). Gerome taught at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts & was a highly successful artist, having great influence in the Paris art world of his day.
