1881 book plate engraving depicting an early 17th Century scene, "The First Sunday At New Haven" Connecticut. Approx 6" X 9 1/2". - The New Haven Colony was established in 1638 by Englishmen, Theophilus Eaton & the Reverend John Davenport. The two men & their companions set sail, driven by the economic & religious motives which had inspired their predecessors, who had established the Massachusetts Bay Colony some years earlier.
