The Skein-Winder ( fabric-making ) by Jean-Louis Hamon. Lovely fine art engraving from a famous painting of ladies involved in the traditional occupation, during the time of Roman emperors. Original steel engraving by J.C. Thevenin (Jean-Charles Beinvenu Gaspard Thevenin) (1819-1869) from the painting by French genre painter, J.L. Hamon c1868. From an edition of Etudes In Modern French Art. 10" X 12". *** heavy foxing along the margins, as seen in photos. Jean-Louis Hamon (1821-1874) was a French painter and designer. He was appointed drawing-master at a religious seminary at Ploermel, Brittany before he had received any art instruction. He sought and obtained a grant for 500 francs to go to Paris to study. He was trained by Delaroche and subsequently by Charles Gleyre.
