19th century dueling style rapier with simple turned grip and copper wire wrap, rounded pommel, probably American. The sword measures 40-1/2” overall with 33-1/4” blade. The blade is triangular in shape and measures 5/8” across the widest part of the ricasso and tapers to a point with a raised medium ride for piercing. The guard is simple constructed iron in oval shape with a velvet over cotton pad which is fragmentary. The overall condition is good with a dark patina. The wood grip shows some carry and use.
