19th century copy or Brevette of Sharps 4-barrel derringer, fancy gold inlay, ivory grips, signed in gold “L. Gasser, Wien” on top rib of barrel. Approx. 9mm rimfire caliber, 4-shot barrel group, 8-7/8” overall, barrels approx. 4”. The pistol remains in fair to good condition showing a dark brown patina finish, slight to slightly heavy scattered erosion an pinprick pitting. The barrel release button is a replacement. The action is not quite working. The grips are well aged to patina with some cracks and staining. A very unusual Sharps copy, the only one we have seen with the Gasser marking, who was one of Europe’s most prolific inventors, particularly in the cartridge era, whereas he developed some of the most popular and unusual revolvers of the 1860’s-90’s. From the Robert Petersen Collection. Est: $400 - $800
