<B>President's Cabinet.</B></I> Collection comprises nine letters: <B>(1) Samuel Dexter.</B></I> Partly printed Document Signed: <I>"Saml Dexter Jun.",</B></I> one page, 7.75 x 12.5", Charlestown, Mass., April 1, 1793. John Adams' future Secretary of War appoints John Vaughan of Philadelphia to have his Power of Attorney. Creased at upper left, minor nicks. <B>(2) Richard Rush.</B></I> Printed Circular Letter Signed: <I>"Richard Rush"</B></I> as J.Q. Adams Secretary of the Treasury, three pages, 7.5" x 11.5", front and verso, Treasury Department, October 25, 1826. Rush sends a "Circular to the Collectors" of a commercial treaty with Denmark, printed beneath his letter on the first page and on the second and third pages. Some holes where the the two leaves attach. Mounting remnants at edge of fourth blank page. <B>(3) John H. Eaton.</B></I> Autograph Letter Signed: <I>"J. H. Eaton",</B></I> one page, 4.75" x 7.25", np, nd. Eaton returns a vial of spirits Nitre for a vial of spirits Lavender. He resigned as Jackson's Secretary of War over a scandal concerning his second wife, Peggy. Lightly penned.<B>(4) Amos Kendall.</B></I> Autograph Letter Signed: <I>"Amos Kendall",</B></I> one page, 7.75" x 9.5", 4th Auditor's Office, June 4, 1829. Jackson and Van Buren's future Postmaster General tells the recipient that he wasn't removed from office because he was involved in "<I>frauds committed by the late Auditor.</B></I>" Small engraved bust portrait of Kendall affixed in blank area. <B>(5) John Spencer.</B></I> Autograph Letter Signed: <I>"John Spencer",</B></I> three pages, 7.75" x 12.5", front and verso, Canandaigua, May 24, 1831. Tyler's future Secretary of the Treasury and War gives legal advice in a case involving proof of title to land. <B>(6) John Spencer.</B></I> Autograph Letter Signed: <I>"John Spencer"</B></I> as Tyler's Secretary of the Treasury, one page, 7.25" x 9.75", Washington, October 27, 1843. Spencer informs Col. Graham of a proposal of a series of tracts, most probably political tracts, and tells him to send <I>"a copy of the large life of President Tyler printed by Harpers."</B></I> Blank integral leaf affixed to a larger sheet. <B>(7) William L. Marcy.</B></I> Manuscript Letter Signed: <I>"W. L. Marcy"</B></I> as Pierce's Secretary of State, two pages, 8" x 10", front and verso, Washington, October 1, 1855. Marcy replies to a inquiry concerning the legality of an American citizen, "<I>during the existing war</B></I>" [Crimean War] purchasing a Russian vessel and flying the U.S. flag over it. Marcy says a U.S. citizen can purchase any foreign vessel at any time. Stained at blank edges. <B>(8) Caleb Cushing.</B></I> Autograph Letter Signed: <I>"C Cushing Plfs Atty",</B></I> one page, 8" x 10", Newbury Port, Mass., November 5, 1833. Pierce's future Attorney General notifies the Essex Court of Common Pleas that his client, John Chukering, <I>"will expect a trial at the first term."</B></I> Cushing biographical notes penned by a collector in the lower blank margin. <B>(9) John Wanamaker.</B></I> Autograph Letter Signed: <I>"Jno Wanamaker",</B></I> two pages, 4.75" x 8", separate leaves, Lindenhurst, Pennsylvania, Midnight, January 28, 1896. Benjamin Harrison's former Postmaster General writes about the history of the Liberty Bell. Nine items. <I>From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection.</B></I>
