Item/Description: Antique "Infallible" Counterfeit Coin Detector scale manufactured by Fairbanks & Co. and also produced under the Abbott Machine Co. name, late 19th century, circa 1880–1900. The lever-operated instrument features a slotted nickel-plated rocker beam with precision-cut openings calibrated to verify the weight, diameter, and thickness of U.S. gold and silver coin denominations. Mounted on a heavy decorative cast-iron "crow’s foot" base, the device was designed for use by banks and merchants to detect shaved or underweight coins and counterfeits. Industrial cast construction with period black finish and aged patina consistent with commercial financial equipment of the era.
