19th Century Letters by Americans in Europe
Three 19th Century Letters Written by Americans in Europe. Three rather long letters written from London and Berne 1841-63 by Americans traveling or working abroad. Each long letter is written in the flowery prose of the period. All letters share a certain intimacy between the writer and recipient. Coincidentally all the letters are similar in the profession of love and friendship between the male writer and male recipient. For example in one letter is written "...now that the moment of parting in reality has arrived my heart leaps toward you with all the old feeling of love and friendship..."; another letter reads "If my beauty is of the "manly Bedouin style" as you are pleased to remark, yours partakes of the intellectual character of the Caucassian [sic] races..."; and yet another letter expresses "...I have always, from the time I knew you, loved you as a brother, and as I have loved none other of all the men with whom I have been associated...". The letters also contain many other interesting passages. All are in very good condition.

Shipping: Requires 3rd Party Shipping (view shipping information)
