19th Century Knox Cast Iron Fluting Machine
Item/Description: 19th century Knox cast iron fluting machine used to press decorative ruffles, pleats and fluted designs into fabric for Victorian-era clothing and home textiles. Ribbed rollers are operated by a top press lever and a side handle, which were often heated to set the pleats permanently. Floral patterns appear on the item's right side. The maker's mark is faint however "Knox's" appears on the front and beneath an intricately detailed miniature portrait, visible inscription reads "November 20, (year illegible) Fluting Machine, Every Lady Should Have One."
