The lot features a heavily carved solid wood pipe ball head war club with human effigy carving. The club shows a ball head war club with pierced hole at the front center showing a poured pewter wall and tapering spherical shape. At the curved rear of the club shows a three-dimensional human effigy carving showing the figure grasping their chest with legs spread. The club then shows a tapering rectangular sharp edge club with incised zig-zag pattern in a curly tiger striped maple ending with a oval softly carved smooth gripping area which is pierced at the end for the smoking tip. The pipe appears to be drilled through and has a draw. The club has a nice patina and is from the 19th Century. It was examined and thought to have been either an American Indian representation or of another tribal origin such as the South American or African, none of which is confirmed. Provenance: From a historic Eastern Montana American Indian Collection, where the piece was found to be an authentic original, one of the finest collections of American Indian weaponry and antiquities in Montana. Measures 17.25”L by 3.25”W by 2.5D.
